Cayman Islands

Our Banknote catalog of Cayman Islands.
The Cayman Islands Dollar (currency code KYD) is the currency of the Cayman Islands. It is abbreviated with the dollar sign $, or alternatively CI$ to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. It is subdivided into 100 cents. It is the 9th-highest-valued currency unit in the world and the highest-valued dollar unit.
On 1 May 1972, the Cayman Islands Currency Board introduced notes in denominations of 1, 5, 10 and 25 dollars. 40 dollar notes were introduced in 1981 but were taken out of circulation a few years later, followed by 100 dollars in 1982 and 50 dollars in 1987. On 1 January 1997, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) took over issuance of paper money, issuing notes for 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 dollars. The current series of notes was issued on 4 April 2011.

Frequently asked questions
What periods and denominations are represented in the Cayman Islands category?
This shop’s Cayman Islands catalog is focused on one-dollar banknotes dated from 1985 through 2010. Represented dates include 1985, 1996, 2001, 2003 and 2010. These listings provide examples from several points across that period, but they should not be treated as a complete survey of every Cayman Islands denomination or issue. The currency is identified as the Cayman Islands dollar, with the code KYD.
Which catalog references appear among the Cayman Islands banknotes?
The Cayman Islands listings use references including P5e, P5f, 16b, P26b, P30a and P38a. Product models may present these in forms such as “PIC 5e” or “PIC 30a,” while titles generally use the shorter reference. Catalog numbers and suffix letters help distinguish listed varieties that share the same denomination or date. These references describe the banknotes represented by this shop rather than every Cayman Islands catalog type.
How can I distinguish the two 1985 Cayman Islands one-dollar listings?
The 1985 one-dollar banknotes are separated by their catalog references: P5e and P5f. Their listing descriptions also identify different prefix details, with A/6 associated with P5e and A/7 associated with P5f. When identifying or ordering one of these notes, compare the year, denomination, catalog suffix and stated prefix information rather than relying only on the general design or the serial number visible in the reference image.
What details should I use to identify a Cayman Islands note from this catalog?
Start with the denomination and printed date, then compare the catalog reference shown in the title or model field. For some listings, an additional prefix designation is supplied, including A/6, A/7, B/2, C/3 and D/1. These details can separate similar Cayman Islands one-dollar notes. The serial number pictured should not be used as the identifier because the product records state that images are for reference and the number shown will not be sent.
What should a buyer check before choosing a Cayman Islands banknote?
A prospective buyer should verify the date, one-dollar denomination, catalog reference and any prefix detail given in the individual listing. These fields are more reliable for selecting the intended variety than the serial number in the photograph. The catalog records expressly note that images are for reference and that the banknote number shown will not be sent. Buyers should also rely only on condition or grade information explicitly provided on the relevant product page, as the supplied records do not specify grades.
Does the Cayman Islands catalog show changes in reference numbers across the represented years?
Yes. The represented one-dollar notes progress from P5e and P5f for 1985 to reference 16b for 1996, P26b for 2001, P30a for 2003 and P38a for 2010. This makes the category useful for comparing how catalog identification changes across dated Cayman Islands issues. The letter suffixes are part of each reference and should be recorded carefully; the supplied data does not define what design, signature or production feature each suffix represents.
