Our Banknote catalog of Bolivia.
The boliviano is the currency of Bolivia. It is divided into 100 cents or centavos in Spanish. Boliviano was also the name of the currency of Bolivia between 1864 and 1963.
History
In 1873, the first boliviano banknotes were issued by the Banco Nacional de Bolivia in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 bolivianos. 20 and 40 centavo notes were added in 1875. Notes were also issued by the Banco Agricola, the Banco de Bolivia y Londres, the Banco del Comercio, the Banco Francisco Argandoña, the Banco Industrial de La Paz (later the Banco Industrial), the Banco Mercatil and the Banco Potosi, with denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 bolivianos. The last issue of these private banks was made in 1911.
In 1903, the Treasury introduced notes in denominations of 50 centavos, 1, 5, 10 and 20 bolivianos. In 1911, the Banco de la Nación Boliviana began issuing notes. The first issue, in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 bolivianos, was overprinted on notes of the Banco de Bolivia y Londres. Regular issues, in the same denominations, followed later the same year. In 1928, the Banco Central took over paper money issuance, with notes for 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 bolivianos. 5000 and 10,000 boliviano notes followed in 1942. Post-inflation economic period annual percentage rate capital appreciation and growth made all the inflation period bolivianos cash banknotes at par value current and legally circulating with the new. From Wikipedia

Frequently asked questions
What periods and currencies are represented in the Bolivia banknote catalog?
This shop’s Bolivia catalog spans dated issues from 1928 through 1997. It includes notes denominated in bolivianos, Bolivian pesos or pesos bolivianos, followed by later boliviano issues. Representative groups include 1928 and 1945 boliviano notes, 1962 issues, high-denomination peso notes from the 1980s, and boliviano notes dated 1990 and 1997. The selection describes the shop catalog rather than every Bolivian banknote issue.
Which denominations appear in the Bolivia category?
The catalog represents a broad denomination range, including 2, 5, 10, 20 and 100 bolivianos; 10, 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 50,000 and 100,000 pesos or pesos bolivianos; and million-denomination notes. Currency wording varies between records, so collectors should read the complete title and Pick reference rather than identifying a note by its numeral alone.
How can I identify Bolivia notes using Pick references?
Each listed Bolivia banknote has a Pick catalog reference, such as P120a for a 1928 5 Bolivianos note, P167a for a 1982 1,000 Bolivian Pesos note, or P205c for a 1997 20 Bolivianos note. The letter suffix is part of the reference and should not be omitted. Compare the full Pick number, date, denomination and currency wording when organizing or identifying a note.
Why can the same Bolivia banknote appear in different listings?
Some cataloged types are represented by more than one listing or grade. For example, the 1928 P120a 5 Bolivianos and P133 100 Bolivianos appear in listings both with and without an XF designation, while the 1985 P190a 1 Million Pesos Bolivianos also appears with a VF designation. Collectors should compare the Pick reference and stated grade carefully, because matching references do not necessarily mean identical listing details.
What should a buyer check before ordering a Bolivia banknote?
Check the date, denomination, currency name, Pick reference and any stated grade in the product title. Several descriptions specify that the images are for reference and that the banknote number pictured will not be the number sent, so buyers should not use the displayed serial number as the identifying feature of the order. Where a grade such as XF or VF is stated, treat it as specific to that listing.
Which high-denomination Bolivia notes are represented in the catalog?
A notable catalog group consists of high-denomination pesos bolivianos from the 1980s. Examples include 50,000 and 100,000 denominations, as well as 1 Million and 5 Million Pesos Bolivianos notes. Referenced examples include P188, P190a, P192A, P193a and P197. Because similar large numerals occur across different dates and references, collectors should distinguish these notes by the complete denomination, year and Pick number.
